Day 1 - Route66 - New York to Cleveland, OH

Today is the day that Kris and I have been planning for. Months of organizing, packing and unpacking, purchasing and trying stuff out and constantly talking about it. Massive thanks to friends and family - for listening, for not seeming bored, for being just as enthusiast as we are - THIS IS IT !!!!

6:30am - Left with FJ all loaded and rode to meet up spot. The weather was 75 degrees when I head out, so the rain liner was taken out of the suit and placed in the top case for later.

7:15am - Meet up point at the Valero Gas Station on the left after the Holland Tunnel, Jersey City. We chose this point as this is the meet up place where Kris and I first met some years back now.

The departure from the city is always busy with commuter traffic. Today was no exception! New York and New Jersey was congested.

We stopped on several occasions to fill up on gas and stretch our legs and hands. Grab water and a bite to eat at Noon. then we were off again....

The hydration back pack is taking time for me to get used to... the weight is not the issue. for the 1st half of the day I didn't have the tube fitted correctly so was taking in dribbles of water..... by the time the tube was working I was then drinking warm water - yuk!

I can't believe that for the first 85 miles I had the heated grips on - no wonder my hands were feeling hot - daft or what!

Today was rugged and we knew it would be - driving on I-80 for the majority and sharing the road with trucks and commuters. 11 hours and many miles (535 miles) - we are excited but worn out from a day's ride

There is one photo that has been posted to social media - others will be shared once we get off the Interstates and turn to the helmet and Go-Pro

We say good night from Cleveland, OH and look forward to tomorrow and the journey on to Chicago

safe riding, keeps
