So we arrived at 1:20pm..... but back up there is a story before that.
We left Cleveland at 7:30am ahead of schedule and it began to rain... in fact it stopped raining at 6:30pm tonight, but again I am jumping ahead. Back to this morning....
Breakfast at the Days Inn, Cleveland Sandusky. Stops along the way for a quick bite and some refreshments.
We stopped at one Service Plaza and we got chatting to a woman who was quite taken that two women had ridden up from Brooklyn, New York and were on our way to our destination of Los Angeles. She was gobsmacked and waved us off !!!
Today we spent 12 hours riding, and that was a tough day as it rained throughout. I don't mind a bit of rain but today it proved challenging as when we got stuck in the commuter traffic in Chicago your visor fogs up, so you snap it up just a little bit and then your face gets cold, so you snap it down. I must have played about with the visor on the helmet for best part of those 12 hours.
Chicago was a nightmare!!! Every single driver behind the wheel of the car / truck / RV needs to go on a driving lesson. The majority drive as if they have a blue flashing light on the roof of their car or they drive as if they are being chased by a blue flashing light on the roof of a car!!! Those orange lights are called indicators - use them people - okay back to today ..... did I mention it rained ? LOL
The suit did its job, but I did start to feel cold and damp. The warmest part of me was my feet - I love those boots.
As for those of you that are interested in mileage.... we did 535miles yesterday from Brooklyn to Cleveland and today we added a further 357 miles.
FJ passed the 4,000 mile on the ODO as we arrived into Chicago.
I-80 West to Chicago took us across farm land, bridges and big interstates... not just the two lanes but like 6 lanes and road works... there were a lot of road works however when we actually pulled into Chicago town centre and saw the US Historic Route 66 BEGIN sign we punched the air and honked our MC horns with such pride and accomplishment...... Now the trip really starts....
Memories from today....
