Up early as who wouldn't be when you are getting your kicks on Route 66 - right ?
Okay... but before we share all the adventures of today something happened last night..... DQ ! Yes I had Dairy Queen for my desert last night.
The ice cream called Guardian of the Galaxy - Vol 2. and it had EVERYTHING in it. Chocolate bits, Cameral, toffee bits....
Okay so back to today.....
After a quick breakfast it was time to do a tire check as the weather had risen by 20 degrees and with the load on FJ, Kris advised it better to check. Good job we did! Front and Rear both needed air. Shortly after setting off we came across a US Historic tourist stop. An old original gas pump station with vintage car parts.
Then we set off with the sun on our backs and the temperature reading on the gauge of 60 degrees. We headed to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge which overlooks the Mississippi. As the weather got warmer, the day got more glorious. Then after a photo opportunity we rode on to St. Louis and the Arch which was breathtaking. Riders stopped to say hello and the temperature continued to rise to a pleasant 62 degrees. Getting out of St. Louis was proving a challenge as many of the roads that we wanted had closed due to the numerous road works but we did it, or rather Kris did it. I have zero sense of direction....
At 2pm we arrived in Cuba and as we continued south west on Old Route 66 we came across the rather large red chair, a world record apparently in a small town called Fanning. then we continued on past Rolla and then past Doolittle and Devils Elbow before arriving at out destination of Lebanon tonight.
So many Moto family were out today, must be the weather, lots of waving and hellos and checking out bikes. We met an Austrian couple who had ridden up from San Diego on a Suzuki doing the West to East 66 route. I was amazed that both of them were on the bike including so many bags of luggage!
Total miles today = 245
Total mileage for the trip = 1342
Some memories of today are below. Video Footage will be posted at a later date. ( I have an external disc drive ! )
Tomorrow we head to Tulsa
Thank you all for your messages of support - until tomorrow it's good night from Missouri
