Just finished an amazing well rewarded steak house dinner with a fine Sharaz...
So today was full of adventures.... and with a total of 189 miles ridden today - here is what happened....
Leaving the Motel this morning before 8am we encountered a bunny! White fluffy tail and white fluffy paws.... we slowed and I must admit I said " good morning" into my helmet..... Bunny was obviously out and about this early morning on her adventures too.
As we continued on... Kris encountered two black dogs barking a massive hello and stating their territory but not threatening, we slowed. We passed a turtle taking a slow meander across the road - at least Kris did - I thought it was a rock !
Up ahead traffic was slowing and would you believe it a peacock was pooderling across the road .... we slowed.... and let the beauty walk across.....
We slowed a lot this morning..... no off road.... but a lot of rough road.... bumpty.. bumpty.. bumpty...
Weather was a cool 60 degrees so heated grips was set to Medium and multiple layers were being worn. We continued on the mother road at a consistent 55 mph. Clouds, overcast with us clearly heading towards stormy weather. I almost felt at home (little dig there to UK weather.... )
We stopped in Warwick, Oklahoma at the Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum. An amazing place of wonder. So many vintage motorcycles of all types and brands. I was particularly interested in the 1979 Triumph Bonneville that was still in its cellophane and boxed - never ridden
The bike used in the film Captain America was also pride of place but there were so many bikes from BSA, Matchless 1966, Honda and Triumph all standing in their lines - all pride of place steeds.
From the museum we continued on west onwards to Oklahoma City. The wind had picked up and as we past farmland ( Roast Beef, Roast Beef) as far as the eye can see I did think about the film TWISTER...... was that a ......... no ........ don't be silly ......
We skipped lunch today as we had an incident or should I call it an adventure!!
FJ's side stand had become loose and I was getting more and more concerned about it. 40mins outside of Clinton the stand SNAPPED. Luckily I had already dismounted and was standing chatting on the side lines when FJ just collapsed. So many came over to assist. A guy pulled up (airport engineer) and got his tool bag in hand and started putting a temporary fix back together for FJ.
I was then told to mount FJ with no side stand and ride for 20miles to a Motorcycle garage where I was reassured that all would be well in the end. Anxious and shaking I rode behind Kris for 20miles on I-40 west to Clinton and to Jone's Motorcycle garage where Kris went and grabbed help whilst I sat on FJ unable to move. Joe, a really nice guy, set about fixing the snapped side stand and after a lot of drilling, banging, soldering and cursing Jones fixed FJ - he then went out on FJ to make doubly sure !
I was now feeling a hell of a lot better now that Joe from Jone's had ridden FJ and all seemed well.
At 3pm we said our goodbye to Jone's Motorcycle Garage and headed 20 minutes down the road to the Route 66 Museum - Amazing and so far has been one of my favorite museums. So well done. The history of the mother road detailed in photograph, video and some vintage props ending with the mandatory shop of memorabilia.
Total mileage = 189
Total Trip Mileage = 1832
Tomorrow we head to Amarillo, Texas and the Devil's Rope Museum .....
