Bit chilly this morning as we got ourselves and our steeds ready to continue
Tire CHECK
Oil CHECK
Brake Fluid CHECK
Chain Lube - redone again this morning!
Side stand also seems to be sturdy although I am acting anxiously when we park up and I have to dismount my steel beast. Will need to see about a customized side stand for FJ once I get back home to New York.
We rode out from the Motel just before 7:30am after a hearty breakfast. The restaurant was full of characters. Many were there just for the breakfasts! It was a cool 48 degrees so the heated grips were set to HIGH and all Layers were on.
At 10:45am we crossed the Texas County Line and we both punched the air and let a cry of whoop whoop!
Technically we are now half-way into our adventure and the weather is changing too. Glorious sunshine and a 20 degrees warm swing and by 1pm it was high 70s and those multiple layers needed to be removed. The ventilation zips on the jacket were opened but I did continue on and keep the rain liners on as the word for today has to be WINDY. FJ and I struggled at times as it really did blow even on the Old Route as the vast space is so open. Some of the road was rough and some was yellow. Follow the yellow brick road we did.
Spotted the odd goat on our travels as well as cattle and horses - so many cattle and horses just grazing. Some would look up as we rode past.
Today was spent stopping off at many sight seeing places. First up was the Route 66 Museum and Old Museum at Elk City.
After spending time walking around the exhibits and taking lots of photos we headed to The Official Devil's Rope Barbwire Museum in McClean.
This was fascinating and my favorite stop for today.... as the Museum covered the history of the cowboy as well as being the largest museum and history of barbwire. There was also a large US Route 66 exhibit and memorabilia shop.
At 2pm after a long day we stopped off in Groom for some lunch, which was great and gave our steeds and us some well earned rest time.
At the half-way mark and the trip is definitely meeting my expectations. From the ride on FJ which is a fantastic bike, to Kris who has planned the route turn by turn, to how different the country really is and vast - did i mention that the country is vast, like gigantic !
Total miles today = 189
Total Mileage Trip - 2022
FJ ODO has passed the 5,000 mark too
Tomorrow we ride to Moriaty New Mexico
